Tears as another Corp member shot dead by shooters in Owerri

A serving individual from the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Ekene Uwaoma Martins was on Monday killed by some obscure shooters in Owerri, the Imo State capital. 

The 23-year-old was shot dead around 8.30pm at Ama-wire Junction, while he was coming back to his home, close by a companion, MacDonald. 

Ekene a 2016 graduate of History and International Studies from the Imo State University, Owerri, was serving at Ogun state for his one year National Youths Service Corps program. 

It was learnt that four men carrying weapons waylaid Ekene and his companion MacDonald, requesting for cell phones. 

On his refusal to discharge his telephones, shooters shot Ekene on his chest and fled. 

He was hurried to the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, where he was affirmed dead. 

Ekene was said to have gone to the state to visit his mom, Mrs. Mary Uwaoma, when he was killed. 

The state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, affirming the occurrence said examinations were continuous and that the guilty parties will be secured soon and charged to court.
