Operation Crocodile Smile II ends in Bayelsa


OPERATION CROCODILE SMILE II, of the 16 Brigade Nigerian Army has ended its operations, as the undertook a renovation of the Iconic Oloibiri Oil Well. This is part of the Brigade’s Community relations activities aimed at enhancing effective civil-military relations in its Area of Responsibility. The oil well located at Otuabagi in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. 

Welcoming the army for the initiative, Retired admiral Gboribigha John-Jonah noted that tourism is a big business world over and assured of government support to enable them achieve set goals. He said tourism can be used to generate fund for the state and the military. 

“Thistorical significant is one area we are very very interested in and for the army to have this initiative is a challenge to us. “I want to first of all challenge the local council area this particular, was done by one the chairman Inaya Abba and more can still be done by complimenting it. “I want to congratulate the Armed forces for this initiative any time they are with such initiative, I can assure, you have the

support of the state Also General Officer commanding 6 division Nigerian Army Major general Iniobong Udoh said the Crocodile smile 2 exercise is the main position of the army. He also explained that the exercise is the main position of the army, who led the fight aqainst illegal bunkering, sea pirates, militancy, has drawn the military to the people, to its community activities. 

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander 16, Major General Kelvin Aligbe said, the brigade deem it necessary to add tourist value to the site because of its economic importance in the country. He said, “the Command will not relent to protect the national asset as well as, curbing criminal activities of region in line with its mandates. “What we are doing today is add tourist value to this iconic monument.” 

In her remarks, the Ogbia Local Government Area Caretaker Chairman, Naomi Ogoli, represented by its chairman Mr. Amiebi Turner thanked the army for placing value to the site, and solicited for the construction of Ogbia road to enable the tourist gain access to the area.
