President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed the installment of benefits to fighters, policemen and paramilitary officers engaged with the Biafra war.
The veterans were expelled from benefit for their investment in the war which kept going in the vicinity of 1967 and 1970.
In an announcement on Wednesday, the Pensions Transition Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) declared that installment will begin on Friday, October 20, in Enugu state.
"The overall population would review that Nigeria saw an appalling common war between July 1967 and January 1970 and because of that tragic period in our history, a few individuals from the military, the Nigeria police and the paramilitary officers who participated with the secessionist were rejected from the administration," the announcement peruses.
"The rejection of those officers was driven to retirement in year 2000 through a presidential acquittal conceded on 29th May, 2000 by the organization of the then President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR.
"A confirmation practice was directed for the absolved officers by the dead Police Pension Office and as of late PTAD on one hand and the Police Service Commission on the other.
"Regardless of the presidential exculpate and check of these officers a large number of them stayed unpaid years after the acquit. In any case, the present organization under the capable administration of president, C-in-C of the military, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has benevolently given endorsement for the installment of annuity privileges to these officers and their closest relative.
"PTAD is initiating the installment of annuity advantages to the resigned war influenced cops on Friday twentieth October, 2017 in Enugu. 162 officers will be payrolled and 57 closest relative who have likewise not been paid their passing advantages will be paid in the primary bunch."
